Legacy Series

leaving

I began a 3 week series about legacy on Sunday. How to establish a legacy, The fruits of a legacy, and The Lord of your Legacy. I am using Solomon’s Legacy as the example, but also a smattering of David’s life, because without David’s legacy, Solomon would have none.

Week 1, Establishing a Legacy

1 Kings 2:1-12

When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.

“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’

“Now you yourself know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me—what he did to the two commanders of Israel’s armies, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. He killed them, shedding their blood in peacetime as if in battle, and with that blood he stained the belt around his waist and the sandals on his feet. Deal with him according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to the grave in peace.

“But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead and let them be among those who eat at your table. They stood by me when I fled from your brother Absalom.

“And remember, you have with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, who called down bitter curses on me the day I went to Mahanaim. When he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the Lord: ‘I will not put you to death by the sword.’ But now, do not consider him innocent. You are a man of wisdom; you will know what to do to him. Bring his gray head down to the grave in blood.”

10 Then David rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. 11 He had reigned forty years over Israel—seven years in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem. 12 So Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his rule was firmly established.

Your legacy is unique to God’s will in your life. Legacy starts with a commitment to knowing and doing the will of God. What’s you legacy going to look like?

Your legacy is what remains on earth even after you’ve passed away.

Vacation Bible School

mega-sports-get-ready-banner-logo

First Baptist Church of Del Rio, Texas has begun it’s annual Vacation Bible School. For the second year we are doing a sports theme from MegaSportsCamp. We offer basketball, baseball, archery, soccer, and cheerleading. The colors are so bright and inviting for young children. I always love this time of year because of my passion for evangelism. I love seeing children come to Jesus with a true childlike faith. It is so exciting and fun.

I have heard so many of your stories of how salvation came to you during Vacation Bible School. It changes the lives of so many and VBS is still a valuable ministry to reach your community. If you church is doing VBS, get involved. You will never be the same!

If you have a VBS story, please write a comment and share with us!

Acuna Mexico Friday, May 29, 2015

Day 5 in Mexico was one of importance. We sent a group of 7 to continue our presence for those that have been displaced by the F4 tornado on Monday. As we went in Jesus’ name, we made an initial stop by our partner church Templo Bautista Bethel. There we stumbled upon a pastor’s gathering in deep discussion. They were discussing how they were to proceed in preparing to begin a partnership of ministry to this tornado stricken neighborhood of 1300 homes.

After our first stop, we proceeded to a central area where we were to feed the workers and families that had a need for nourishment. As the morning drew to a close, we proceeded to a gym that was housing over 300 people. Here I witnessed a huge gathering of young students volunteering the sorting and packing of donated items into family style bags that included things like cereal, bleach, Lysol, toilet paper, toothpaste, canned food, and other necessary items. We fed the volunteers at this location as well.

In total 700 meals were given consisting of meat, beans, rice, bread, and water.

We also went door to door asking if there were other needs like a need for mops or bleach or a broom. Of course out supplies quickly ran out.

The best part of the day was after all the feeding and handing out of supplies. We set up a canopy, table, and chairs to attract the children in a coloring gathering. The kids as you can see in the pictures were coloring a drawing. Then the best part came. Olympia, started to present the Gospel to this young group of kids. They were attentive and afterwards were given a New Testament and invited back on Monday to continue the conversation. This is how you start a church in Mexico. You start by storing the hearts of kids.

As we were leaving we were able to minister to a young couple struggling to keep their marriage intact. Please pray for Diego and his wife. I plan to meet with them again on Monday

God is great every time!

Preparing to feed the Tornado Victoms of Acuna Mexico

This morning, beginning at 4;30 am, a crew from Primera Iglesia Piedras Negras Mexico began making meals to feed 700. A group from FBC Del Rio will meet them in Acuna and begin the feeding ministry.

Please pray for us as we battle fatigue, the border crossing, and not to mention that it poured rain again last night, so we aren’t sure about street conditions.

Today we are going to start a children’s ministry tent to begin the real reason we are there. To tell people the street of Jesus love.

Thursday, May 28, 2015 Acuna Mexico Recovery Efforts

As a pastor, I am so proud of my church members and their efforts to help our friends in Acuna, Mexico, after the F4 Tornado. They have been so faithful to serve with glad hearts. Today over 500 meals were given out in love, consisting of meat, beans, rice, bread, and water.

Today, the Del Rio Uvalde Association delivered a collection of goods from the area baptist churches. They also brought monetary donations to purchase any other needs that come along. God has moved the body of Christ into full throttle action.

Here are today’s pictures. Thanks Alphonso for all your Facebook posts.
