On Sunday, Feb 21, 2016, I will begin a new 9-week series through the book of 1 Peter. I keep asking myself, what is it that I most enjoy about preaching through a book series? Why do I continue to believe it is important to preach in this manner? As I pondered, I believe it gives me a great deal of focus about what to do next. I know many pastors enjoy the thrill of wondering what God will reveal to them for their next sermon based on current world news, but I am leery about that method. Right now, the news is so political, I don’t want to get into a political sermon series (could turn out that way). I would much rather go through a book, and allow God to help me help others in dealing with Scriptures in the total context of a particle book. This is called expository preaching. It consists of a verse-by-verse approach.

Ed Steadier of Lifeway recently wrote a part 1 of a 3 part series on this topic. You can read part 1 HERE
