Mom

Today, I want to dedicate this post to my mom, Mrs. Mary Floyd.

This week as we approach mother’s day, I will dedicating some thoughts to the women who have shaped me into the man I am today, starting with my mom today, and my wife tomorrow.

I grew up in a 2 parent home of Larry & Mary Floyd. I was born in Des Moines, IA., but we picked up and moved to the border city of El Paso, TX in 1974. My mom is from El Paso and she grew up there, so we have a great number of family members living in El Paso. After moving to El Paso, I realized that I was very different from the local culture. I am after all, 1/2 anglo and 1/2 hispanic, and the city has a predominant Mexican culture. I am grateful for the upbringing I was able to endure in a tough border town like El Paso, and I owe a lot of who I am today to my mom. My mom loves people. She will talk to you if you will listen to her, and even if you don’t listen to her (ha). She is always happy and cheerful and full of life. My mom is was always there for me growing up as a stay at home mom. That means I must give credit to my dad as well for allowing her to do that and forfeit a second income.

So, mom thank you for loving me unconditionally. Thank you for all you did and still continue to do. Mom you have been a rock and pillar to me and to our family. You are so beautiful and I love you very much. I probably don’t call enough or write enough, but you know that I love you. I wish we could see each other more, but God’s call places distance between us. I wish you the best Mother’s Day this Sunday!

Happy Mother’s Day Mom,

Your Son Larry
